Measures Being Taken This Year

The festival will strive to hold a safe "Special Fuji Rock Under Special Circumstances" for all involved through the thorough implementation of measures to stop the spread of Covid-19.

In order to hold this year's Fuji Rock Festival '21, the festival has set and will be thoroughly implementing the "Guidelines for the Prevention of the Spread of Covid-19 at the Festival".

Please be sure to fully read and understand the following guidelines before purchasing tickets to the festival. Those who do not follow these guidelines at the festival will be removed from the festival or not allowed to enter the festival. Ticket refunds will not be made available under these circumstances.

We ask for understanding and cooperation from each and every person participating in the festival in order to secure a safe environment for all of us.

《Venue Environment》

  • The festival venue is held outdoors on the grounds of a ski resort.
    • All stages and facilities will fundamentally be outdoors.
    • The "Red Marquee" stage which is a designated evacuation space in the event of adverse weather is a roofed space but is not enclosed providing for ample ventilation.
  • Stages of varying sizes are spread throughout a large space.
    • Each stage is surrounded by mountains and forests with enough space to implement social distancing.
    • The festival timetable will be devised to keep audience from gathering at any one stage.
  • The festival features various areas other then stages.
    • The festival features food areas, multiple campsites, a large riverside area and a forest boardwalk in addition to the many different activities available for attendees scattered throughout the festival to keep people from gathering at one location.
  • The festival will limit capacity in order to secure ample space for social distancing between people.
    • The festival will follow guidance from the government and be held with a limited capacity in order to ensure safe distances can be kept between attendees.
  • The festival will alter its layout for to avoid congestion and ensure social distancing.
    • The number of stages will be decreased and food, beverage and other hospitality areas for audience members will be expanded.
  • Performances will finish by midnight each day of the festival.
    • Performances will not be held into the next day and audience members will be asked to depart the area immediately upon the performances finishing.
      (Use of the campsites and parking areas will be permitted during times valid to the tickets purchased.)
  • Toilets, dining areas, merchandise booths and other communal spaces will be sanitized on a regular basis.
  • Stages and viewing areas will be spaced a minimum of 2 meters apart.

Guidelines to Prevent the Spread of Covid-19 at the Festival

Changes made to guidelines for FRF'21

*Festival organizers and venue management shall implement and follow guidelines as set for their respective industries.

*Please note that the festival may revised these guidelines in accordance to any changes in policy by national or local governments.

  • Wearing a mask will be mandatory at all times.
    • Festival goers will be required to wear a mask at all times while inside or outside the festival. The festival recommends the use of nonwoven cloth masks.
    • Those not wearing a mask will not be permitted to enter the festival. Masks will not be provided by the festival. Please be sure to bring your own masks.
    • Please be sure to use a sealable bag when disposing of used masks.
  • Please wash your hands regularly, use hand sanitizer and practice proper cough etiquette.
    • Please wash your hands regularly and sanitize your hands often while inside and outside the festival.
    • Hand sanitizer will be located at various locations throughout the festival. Please also be sure to bring your own portable hand sanitizer.
  • Temperature check points will be installed at various locations throughout the festival.
    • Your body temprature will be checked upon entry to the festival, boarding the festival shuttle bus, and the gates to the campsites, etc. (Your temperature will be checked each time you enter and re-enter the festival.)
    • Everyone attending the festival will be given a wristband to show they do not have a temperature upon being checked at the entrance.
    • Those with a body temperature of 37.5°C (99.5°F) or above, or those who refuse to have their temperature taken will be refused entry to the festival (refused use of shuttle bus).
  • Please refrain from raising your voice or speaking with other festival goers.
    • Please do not cheer, shout or have unnecessary conversations during the performances.
    • Always wear a mask when speaking even with people you know.
  • Practice Social Distancing
    • Please be sure to distance yourself from other festival goers.
    • Please refrain from moshing, diving, "high five" and other direct contact with others.
  • Alcoholic beverages will not be permitted within the festival (as of July 30th).
    • Sales of alcoholic beverages will not be permitted in all areas of the festival including the campsites. (This is includes the Naeba Prince Hotel.)
    • Bringing alcoholic beverages into the festival including the campsites will not be permitted.
  • The festival is non-smoking outside of designated smoking areas.
    • The festival (including campsites) is no-smoking.
    • Please refrain from speaking while using the smoking areas. Prolonged use of the smoking areas is prohibited.
  • Please manage your health.
    • August in Naeba can be quite cool with temperatures falling to as low as 10°C in the early morning hours while still hot during the daytime.
      A low body temperature can lead to decreased immuno response and can lead to fever and the common cold, etc. Be sure to come prepared for not only warm and cold but also foul weather.
    • Please also counter heat stroke by wearing a hat and cool clothing, and by drinking water regularly.
  • All those attending the festival will be required to download and register on the official Fuji Rock Festival app.
    • The official Fuji Rock Festival app must be installed and all required info registered to enter the festival.

    • All those attending the festival will be required to download, install and register all required personal information in addition to having temperature checked prior to entering the festival. The app must be shown to festival staff to enter the festival.
    • All persons attending the festival are required to show the app.
    • Those who are unable to download and register their information on the app will be required to give personal details to enter the festival.
    • Those who refuse to provide personal details will not be allowed to enter the festival without exception. Tickets will not be refunded in this case.
    • The personal information gathered on the official app will be stored securly and given to health officials in the case of infection at the festival.

Before Traveling to the Festival

  • Managing your health and infection prevention prior to arrival to the festival is important.
    • Festival attendees are asked to implement health checks and measures to prevent infection themselves prior to coming to the festival.
    • Attendees are also asked to refrain from gathering in groups prior to and after attending the festival.
    • Please be sure to take your temperature every morning each day for seven days prior to attending the festival.
  • Do not forget to bring infection control items!
    • Be sure to bring enough masks, portable hand sanitizer, wipes and other items to help stop the spread of infection.
    • The festival advises the use of nonwoven cloth masks.
    • Supplies of infection control items in the area surounding the festival are limited so please be sure to purchase and prepare these items in the area at which you reside prior to travelling to the festival.
  • Please note persons to which any of the following apply will not be permitted to enter the festival.
    • Those who record a fever of 37.5°C (99.5°F) or above within seven days of arrival to the festival or on the day of arrival at the festival.
    • Those who do not feel well (cough, trouble breathing, lethergic, sore throat, stuffy or runny nose, altered sense of taste or smell, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, etc.)
    • Those who visited or have come into close contact with a person who visited or resides in a country or region on the government's list of restricted countries or regions within 14 days of arrival to the festival.
    • Those who have tested postiive for Covid-19 or have been directed to quarantine.
    • Those who have come into close contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19 within 14 days of arrival to the festival.
    • Those who have family members or other close aquaintances who are suspected of being infected.
  • Please make use of Niigata Prefecture's Covid-19 notification system (LINE).
    A QR code will be made available at the festival venue for attendees to register use.

    About Niigata Prefecture's Covid-19 Notification System

    In the event that a person who had used the festival facilities, etc., is found to have contracted Covid-19 and there is reason to believe that there is a high possibility of spread to an unknown number of persons, a notification will be sent by Niigata Prefecture to those who had used that same facility.
  • Please download and register with the contact tracing app, COCOA.

    "COCOA" is the Covid-19 contact tracing app released by Japan's Ministry of Health. The app notifies users about possible contact with positive Covid-19 cases. Download to your smartphone to use.
    *Be sure to have Bluetooth turned on.

Arriving To and While At the Festival

  • Please be sure to leave plenty of space when lining up to enter or exit the festival, etc.
    • Practice social distancing when watching shows or eating and drinking.
    • Please always stay to the left when moving within the festival. The boardwalk will be one way only.
    • Avoid congregating in front of the stages or crowding along paths between areas.
    • The number of people who can gather in front of the stage will be controlled by fencing the area into blocks and social distancing will be induced by marking positions on the ground.
      Please note that plastic bottles of water for hydration will be permitted in this area.
    • Audience members are asked to utilize suitably sized leasure sheets and folding chairs of the types which are permitted to help ensure social distancing at the rear of the viewing area of each stage.
    • Please follow any instructions by festival staff if it is deemed necessary to spread people out while waiting (to enter or exit the festival, toilet, etc.).
  • The festival may require audience members to spread out or restrict their movements in order to avoid congestion.
    • Restrictions may be enforced when entering and exiting the festival and moving between areas or to avoid congestion in any one area.
    • Notifications regarding the regulations pertaining the app will be sent via the official festival app.
  • Capacity Controls at Stages
    • Stage capacities may be restricted depending on circumstances.
    • Notifications regarding the regulations pertaining the app will be sent via the official festival app.
  • Smoking is not permitted inside the festival.
    • Please be sure to use a designated smoking area.
    • Please refrain from speaking while at a smoking area and do not use the smoking area for prolongued periods of time.
  • If you become unwell while at the festival, please do not hesitate to tell a nearby staff member.
  • Those suspected of being infected will be removed from the festival.
    • ・Those within the festival who are found to have symptoms such as fever or coughing may be removed from the festival.
  • Please follow instructions from festival staff inside and outside the festival. Those who refuse to follow instructions from festival staff will be removed / barred from the festival.
  • Please refrain from bringing gifts, etc., for artists.

Food, Beverage & Alcohol at the Festival

  • Please be sure to implement the following while eating & drinking: 「Use your mask when eating & drinking」「Dine Alone」「Silent Dining」
    • Please refrain from taking your mask off to talk while eating and drinking. Please wear a mask whenever speaking.
    • Please refrain from sitting across from someone while eating or drinking.
    • Please do not dine with people outside of your immediate family or those you are travelling with. Please also refrain from dining with over five people even if they are part of your immediate family.
    • If it is necessary to line up at a food vendor please be sure to keep appropriate distance between yourself and others.Festival staff will be instructing people to spread out and cue's will be marked to maintain social distancing.
  • Operation Times for each dining area are as follows.
    • Close at 10:00 PM
      ORANGE CAFÉ
    • Close at 11:00 PM
      YELLOW CLIFF / OASIS Area / Tokoro Tengoku / Avalon Field
    • Close at 2:00 AM
      Campsites / PYRAMID GARDEN
  • Alcohol is not permitted at the festival.
    • Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in any area of the festival at any time.
      (Alcoholic beverages will not be sold at the Naeba Prince Hotel)
    • Bringing alcoholic beverages into any area of the festival including the campsites is not permitted.
  • Plastic bottles to use for hydration will be permitted at each stage area.
    • Beverages will not be permitted in any other area. (Glass bottles and cans are not permitted in the festival.)
    • ・There will be an area to the rear of the walk through path at the Green Stage where food and drink is permitted.
      Food and beverages will not be permitted outside of the designated areas.

At the Campsites

  • Please be sure to keep more then 1 meter between each tent.
    • Space is limited so please do not use chairs or tables outside of your tent.
    • The use of shades or shelters will not be permitted in the campsites.
  • Do not enter other people's tents.
    • Please refrain from sharing tents with those who are not part of your family or inner circle.
  • Eating and drinking outside of tents is not permitted.
    • Please stay inside your tent.
    • Please do not gather with others in or near the tents.
    • Please refrain from unnecessary talking or talking in a loud voice.
    • Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the campsites.
  • Please do not lend or reuse camping tools, plates or cutlery with others.
  • Please be sure to regularly ventilate your tent.
    • Please be careful of heat stroke while staying in your tent.
  • Be sure to have plenty of water on hand while camping.
    • The number of water facilities on site are limited so in order to avoid congestion, please be sure to keep enough water to wash your hands, brush your teeth and gargle in a plastic tank or bottle. Do not forget to hydrate regularly.
  • Smoking is not permitted in the campsites.
    • Please be sure to use a designated smoking area.
    • Please refrain from speaking when smoking and prolonged use of the smoking area.

When Boarding the Bus & While Inside the Bus

  • Measures to stop the spread of Covid-19 as set by the travel industry will be implemented in all official bus tours and the shuttle bus from Echigo Yuzawa Station.
    • Please cooperate with opening windows in the busses.
    • Please be sure to wear a mask when on the busses and refrain from speaking.
  • Please cooperate with temperature check prior to boarding the busses.
    • Those with a temperature over 37.5℃ will not be permitted to board the busses. Those who refuse the temperature check will not be permitted to board.
  • Onboard the Busses
    • Official Bus Tours
      ・Busses which meet the guidelines to stop the spread of Covid-19 set by the travel industry will be used for all official tour packages.
    • Shuttle Busses
      ・UV and plasmacluster negative ion machines will be placed in the busses in addition to other infection countermeasures measures.
      ・For busses that are not able to install the above equipment, hand rails and straps, etc., will be disinfected regularly and windows will be open for ventilation.
      ・Food and beverages other then plastic bottles for hydration will not be permitted on the busses.
  • Please implement social distancing while waiting to board busses.

After the Performances Finish

  • Please depart immediately after the performance is finished.
    • Please do not gather with others or eat and drink with numorous people even when outside of the festival. Please keep social distances and actions.
  • Please maintain your health after the festival.
    • Please refrain from social gatherings and dining with others after the festival.

Measures Being Taken by Staff & Artists

  • Performing artists and all staff members will undergo health and temperature checks.
    • Staff members who are found to have a fever or feel unwell will not be permitted to work.
    • Festival staff & artists will be given a temperature check wristband to show they have been checked and do not have a high temperature.
  • All staff will be required to wear a mask or face shield while working (artists will be allowed to remove face coverings during performances).
  • Use of hand sanitizer and washing hands will be required throughout the day.
  • Social distancing will be enforced in staff and backyard areas and indoor areas will be ventilated at regular intervals.
  • In the event of any incident, the festival will work promptly with local health centers, health officials and medical facilities to ensure the health and safety of festival staff and performing artists.
  • Staff and artists will also be required to wear a mask at all times and not speak without a mask.


Fuji Rock Festival will work to implement these measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and have everyone enjoy the festival safely.
