Festival Echo 〜 Fuji Rock, existing along with the forest

Striving for symbiosis with the nature of Naeba

Fuji Rock Festival is held amidst the forests of Naeba. Listening to music while surrounded by the green forests is an extraordinary experience. Fuji Rock aims to take care of the beauty year round rather then just the one period each summer. Decreasing the amount of waste the festival produces and taking care of the forest along with festival audience is just one of the many things the festival does to support the environment.

    The Fuji Rock Forest Project works to protect forests along with the support of festival goers.

    New Power Gear implements clean energy sources to reduce CO2 emmisions which cause global warming.
  • Zero Waste Navigation
    This project takes garbage produced at the festival and recycles it into materials we can use at the festival.
  • NGO Village
    The festival supports various NGOs in getting their message out. Applications for space at this summer’s festival are now being accepted.

FUJI ROCK FOREST PROJECT2025

Fuji Rock Festival turns the respect for the forests surrounding the venue into action to protect them alongside Niigata prefecture, the towns of Yuzawa and Naeba, and the many supporters who come to Fuji Rock in the Fuji Rock Forest Project.

Disposable chopsticks created from the forests surrounding the festival

Chopsticks made from cedar trees thinned from the forests surrounding the festival venue are made available at the festival.

“FUJI ROCK PAPER” made using trees cut during thinning of forests

With cooperation from the Chuetsu Pulp & Paper Company, paper is made using trees felled during thinning of the forests surrounding the festival venue for use and sale at the festival. The paper is also used in publishing the festival’s official free newsletter, “Festival Echo”, posters and flyers. By thinning the forests, the trees left are given ample space to fully grow and lets sunlight into the forest floor making the overall forest healthier.

We made Fuji Rock tissues!

Fuji Rock tissue boxes are being produced using Fuji Rock Paper which is made using recycled paper. The tissue box features a picture of the forest of Naeba. The tissue is also available as a gift through the Furusato Nozei program for Yuzawa.

Enjoy the forest at the “BOARDWALK”

Spanning a distance of 1.4km in the festival is a boardwalk made of lumber from the surrounding forests by festival volunteers and elevated to protect the forest floor is barrier free boardwalk.

Reduce Global Warming Impact by Reducing CO2!

With climate events happening across the globe, Japan is striving to become carbon neutral by 2050. Each one of us need to reduce the amount of CO2 we produce and not just leave it up to businesses and governments. Let’s reduce the amount of CO2 produced at the festival!

  • The festival is working to reduce CO2 emissions in part by using recycled tempura oil as bio-diesel to power.
  • Ms. Yukino Nagai, J-WAVE navigator, has been confirmed as the MC for the AVALON stage.

Mehndi artist, essayist, humanitarian, social studies teacher and radio personality Ms. Yukino Nakai will be the master of ceremonies at the Avalon Stage this summer. Don’t miss it!

Recycle Fuji’s Garbage at Fuji Rock!

The festival is working with the NPO, iPledge, towards making society one that regards “Garbage = Resource”. We work to recycle as much of the garbage at the festival as possible.

Paper cups become toilet paper!

The paper cups gathered at Fuji Rock Festival are recycled by official supporters of the festival and turned into toilet paper.

FUJI ROCK FOREST THERMOS BOTTLES!

Fuji Rock Forest and Thermos have teamed up to release a collaboration bottle. Featuring a convenient carry loop, this set includes a portable mug perfect for festivals with lots of movement, a carbonated beverage-compatible insulated bottle, and an original mug. Enjoy Fuji Rock with your own bottle!

Water refill spots available to anyone with their own bottle

A special “water refill spot” will be set up at the Yellow Cliff THERMOS booth for those who bring their own bottles or tumblers. Fill your bottle with cold, delicious water from Naeba and enjoy it all day at the perfect temperature.

Hair Mats Soak Up Oil!

Hair Mats are oil absorption sheets made from hair that would otherwise be thrown away. Human hair absorbs oil and is used in ocean oil spills. Fuji Rock Festival uses the mats to clean oil from food vendors at the festival.

Reducing Food Loss at the Festival

Portions of food unused by food vendors is donated to the Yuzawa Food Bank and other facilities and those in need.

NGO Village

Supporting NGOs Making a Better Society

Within the festival, there is an NGO Village where NGOs working on various issues surrounding us, such as the global environment, forest conservation, and peace, gather to share information about their activities. Organizations participating in the NGO Village will provide visitors with easy-to-understand information about social issues and encourage them to take action.
