In 2011, we experienced the major event of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the surrounding circumstances and daily life changed, but each person held the event with the feeling of "Let's do our best, Japan!"
Coldplay, who have now conquered every international festival and appeared at FUJI ROCK twice before, finally appeared as headliners. Their live performance, which directly expressed their warm feelings for Japan, became the highlight of 2011 on the first day. The second headliner was Arctic Monkeys, who have risen to become one of the UK's most representative ARTISTS with unstoppable momentum since their debut in 2005, making their FUJI ROCK debut and generously performing their hits.
The final act on the White Stage on Friday will be Big Audio Dynamite, fronted by Mick Jones of The Clash, and one of the highlights of the festival is being able to see such returning acts.
Symbolizing this, Saturday's headliner was The Faces, and longtime fans gathered in Naeba, their eyes welling up with excitement at the mere thought of Ron Wood, now a member of The FUJI ROCK Stones, taking to the stage as the original guitarist of The Faces.
On the final day, Sunday, Chemical Brothers delivered a spectacular performance using a giant LED screen that covered the entire Green Stage, instantly transforming Naeba into a dance floor.
Many ARTISTS have grown into big bands thanks to FUJI ROCK , but one of the most iconic of them all, The Music, appeared as special guests to close the festival and perform their final live show in Japan before disbanding. They delivered a powerful performance in front of a large audience that remained on the Green Stage even after the headliners had finished, hoping to witness their final heroic performance, and left a new legacy at FUJI ROCK.
Since its inception in 1997, the festival has promoted "coexistence with nature" and provided an opportunity to consider the shift to renewable energy. It also provided the NGO Village Avalon Stage for the anti-nuclear, anti-nuclear event "Atomic Cafe," which has been held since the 1980s, and supported the movement to promote the shift to an energy society that prioritizes renewable energy. Kazuyoshi Saito and Tokiko Kato delivered their messages through songs, while the three members of Yellow Magic Orchestra delivered their talks.
As part of the Great East Japan Earthquake relief project "Benefit for NIPPON," we conducted a donation drive to support the victims. We placed donation boxes inside and outside the venue during the event, and received generous donations from many attendees. The FUJI ROCK Festival festival has combined the donations received from you all and remitted the following amount.
FUJI ROCK has been working on various environmental initiatives under the theme of "the coexistence of nature and music." To protect the forest environment around the venue, the festival has established the FUJI ROCK Forest Promotion Council and launched a project together with Niigata Pref., Yuzawa-machi , and the people of Naeba.
This project will focus on the development of the " BOARD WALK, " one of the symbols of FUJI ROCK , and will continue to work together to restore and utilize the forest so that local residents and visitors to Naeba can enjoy an even more wonderful environment.
It is a groundbreaking project that has never been done before, with a music festival and the government working together to promote an environmental conservation project through reforestation, and we aim to make it an initiative that can be shared with the world.
